Egyptologist and archaeologist with expertise in material culture and funerary customs, emphasizing regionalism, provenance research, cultural heritage preservation, and the integration of 3D technology in archaeology. Carlo has a PhD from Monash University, and held post-doctoral and research positions at Macquarie University, Monash University, The British Museum, Yale University, The Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA, and the ISPC-CNR, Italy. He is an active member of several archaeological missions to Egypt, among which the Dakhleh Oasis Project, the Japanese mission at North Saqqara, and the Spanish mission at Qubbet el-Hawa.

The ISPC-CNR (Istituto di Scienze del Patrimonio Culturale, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche), Catania Branch, is the institution hosting and sponsoring the CRAFT Project, as well as providing budgetary, accounting, and scientific support to the researcher.

The XRAYLab is settled within the ISPC-CNR Catania Branch. It develops innovative instrumentation and analytical methodologies based on the use of X-rays for the non-invasive characterization of archaeological material or material of historical-artistic interest. The analytical techniques developed by the laboratory can be applied through mobile instrumentation and can be used in situ, directly in museums, conservation centers, or archaeological sites.

The Cotsen Institute of Archeology at UCLA will support CRAFT's objectives with access to research labs and equipment, specialised courses and assistance from experts in Achaeology, Digital Humanities, 3D scanning, and Provenance Research.

Australia’s first museum, founded in 1827, with over 21 million scientific specimens and cultural objects in their collections. The Museum holds a remarkable selection of artefacts from Ancient Egypt, and it houses the AMRI (Australian Museum Research Institute), which includes a team of research scientists, collection scientists, collection officers and more than 130 associates and fellows. CRAFT is collaborating with the Australian Museum's scientists to investigate their cartonnage collection (see also the upcoming Research visits page).

The Dakhleh Oasis Project (DOP) is a long-standing archaeological and environmental investigation conducted in the oasis of Dakhleh since 1978. It involves the collaboration of several universities and research institutes
